The second day of the Public Digitalization Program (PDP) unfolded in Mérida, the capital of Roman Lusitania and today a hub for regional governance and innovation.
Participants were welcomed at the Extremadura School of Public Administration, where they met with representatives of the Regional Government of Extremadura.
Juan Carlos Preciado, General Secretary for Digital Transformation and Cybersecurity, presented the ambitious digital agenda of the region, emphasizing how Extremadura is strengthening public services through innovation, cybersecurity, and inclusive access for citizens. He was joined by Andrés Pascual Nebreda, Project Manager in the same Secretariat, who detailed ongoing initiatives aimed at consolidating digital ecosystems across municipalities and fostering inter-institutional cooperation.
After a brief break, the delegation immersed themselves in history with a visit to the Roman Theater of Mérida, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The visit served as both a cultural experience and a reflection on the enduring value of public spaces as vehicles for community life and knowledge-sharing.
The day highlighted the importance of balancing tradition and innovation—combining the timeless heritage of Mérida with the forward-looking policies that shape the digital future of Extremadura.
